Day 2 of Fraudmas: The “Your Package Is Delayed” Delivery Scam
By December 3, 2025 Fraud information
Because scammers know you’re expecting 43 Amazon boxes this season. The holiday season basically turns our homes into small-scale shipping centers. You’ve got packages from every corner of the internet arriving daily which is exactly what scammers are counting on. |
The classic scam scenario
You get a text that says:
“USPS: Package cannot be delivered. Please click here to reschedule.”
You panic because you're expecting various deliveries...it's the holiday season! So you click, it asks you to sign in or pay a $1.47 fee, and boom...your info is stolen.
How this scam actually works:
- Scammers send fake texts/emails pretending to be USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, or Amazon.
- They claim your package is delayed or needs payment.
- They include a link that looks real.
- The link takes you to a fake login or payment page.
- They steal your info instantly.
AI now helps scammers copy real logos, use real tracking styles, and write convincing notifications.
Your holiday to-do list to avoid this:
- Don’t click unexpected tracking links. Ever. Even if they mention the carrier you use most.
- Check your delivery status manually. Go directly to: Amazon’s app, USPS.com, UPS.com, FedEx.com
- Remember: carriers don’t charge random fees over text.
- Slow down. Being rushed is the goal of the scam.
