Member Number vs. Account Number

What’s the difference? Our members often ask how to tell the difference between their Member Number and their Account Number. These numbers are important for making transactions, setting up automatic payments, and more. Some financial institutions assign a member number that is much different from each account number, at Topside we include your member number in all of your account numbers. Here's a breakdown:

Member Number

This is used to identify your overall relationship with Topside. It is a unique number given to you when you join the Credit Union and can be found at the top of your account statement.

When to use your member number

  • When contacting or visiting us to conduct business to get assistance more quickly. It is helpful when identifying your overall member relationship and viewing your accounts.

  • When identifying yourself to Topper.

  • When enrolling in Online Banking.

Account Numbers & IDs

Your full Account Number identifies a specific account such as a savings, checking or loan account. It is assigned as each account type is opened. You might notice that your member number is included in your account number. Account numbers are created using your member number and a unique account identifier number. The account number ID is located in the body of your statement with the account balance and activity. The full account number can be found in the Details tab when viewing your account in your Online Banking.

When to use your account number

  • When setting up a direct deposit or automatic deductions you will need the full account number.

  • When mailing in a deposit or loan payment you will need the full account number.

  • When identifying accounts with Topper if you have multiple checking, savings, certificates or loans you will need your account ID.
