Day 5 of Fraudmas: Crypto Investment Scams Ho-Ho-Hijacking Wallets
By December 3, 2025
Deepfakes, fake influencers, and “holiday investment opportunities”Crypto scams used to be obvious. Now? Not so much. AI has made it incredibly easy for scammers to create:
|
A jolly-but-fake scenario:
You watch a video of a celebrity saying: “I personally guarantee this crypto will double by the holidays.”
The video looks real. The voice matches. The message is convincing. And the scammer...is laughing behind the scenes.
What to do instead:
1. Ignore unsolicited investment messages. DMs, emails, Discord invites, “influencer” posts – ignore them all.
2. No legitimate investment is guaranteed or risk-free. If it promises huge profits, it is a scam.
3. Verify brokers with SEC or FINRA databases.
4. Research before sending money to ANY crypto platform. With a little research, it is often easy to identify scams and “too good to be true” investment opportunities.
The FBI has a helpful article about this here: https://www.fbi.gov/how-we-can-help-you/victim-services/national-crimes-and-victim-resources/cryptocurrency-investment-fraud
